Seattle Mariners' Chone Figgins(notes), right, looks up to NBA legend Bill Russell after Figgins caught a ceremonial first pitch from Russell prior to a baseball game between the New York Yankees and the Seattle Mariners, Friday, May 27, 2011, in Seattle.

Seattle manager Eric Wedge said Figgins would get the time off Tuesday before the second game of a three-game series against Baltimore. Figgins is in an 0-for-22 slump and was dropped from second to eighth in the batting order Monday.

Doug Fister has seen the Seattle Mariners pull together over the past month. He's just happy to finally contribute. Fister (3-5) picked up his first victory since April 30, a 4-3 decision over the Baltimore Orioles on Monday. Fister went 7 1-3 innings, allowing three runs and seven hits, walked one and struck out a career-high nine in his 49th start.

It wasn't so much that Jake Arrieta's right arm gave him trouble against the Seattle Mariners on Monday. It was his left leg. Jason Vargas getting rocked again at home was an afterthought for the Seattle Mariners on Sunday. The bigger concern is what's going at the top of their batting order. Vargas lasted just three innings and was knocked around for six runs, and Seattle's offense managed just a solo homer by Justin Smoak off New York ace CC Sabathia in the Mariners' 7-1 loss to the Yankees.

Even though it came on a day CC Sabathia didn't need much, he's not going to complain about the run support he's been receiving. So far, at least, his teammates aren't giving him grief about it. "I don't think anybody has realized it yet, but I know," Sabathia said. The Yankees ace continued his domination of the Seattle Mariners on Sunday, allowing just one run in…

At six different points this season — less than two weeks ago even — the Seattle Mariners were a season-worst seven games below .500. Thanks to four groundballs that never left the infield, some more brilliant pitching and a Gold Glove worthy catch by Franklin Gutierrez, the Mariners got back to even on Friday night with a 4-3 win over the New York Yankees.

The Mariners said Kelley was injected with platelet rich plasma in his right elbow Friday by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala.
