The mere fact that Erik Bedard was able to get through spring training healthy was a victory in itself for the Seattle Mariners' injury-plagued left-hander. So, it didn't matter much to him what his pitching line was Thursday night in an 8-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Bedard gave up five runs and six hits over four innings, finishing his spring slate 3-1 in six starts with a 3.15 ERA.

Heading to Sodo (South Downtown) to catch the Seattle Mariners and Seattle Seahawks game has become a Northwest tradition, and a lot of bars and restaurants are nearby to provide support for fans. It's funny to think that this tradition almost never would have happened if the Mariners didn't make their improbable comeback in the 1995 and make the playoffs. If the Mariners had quietly spent the rest of the season in the American League West cellar, one of the last memories we would have had as Mariner fans, would be of the Kingdome imploding.

Michael Young and the Texas Rangers took advantage of Seattle ace Felix Hernandez's absence. With Hernandez facing minor leaguers rather than his division opponent, Young had three hits and three RBIs, including a broken bat single in the 10th inning to lift the Rangers to a 5-4 victory over the Mariners.
