Kendry Morales took a leap toward home plate and all of a sudden, a jubilant trip around the bases turned into a deflating trip to the disabled list. The Seattle Mariners placed catcher Josh Bard on the 15-day disabled list Friday because of a calf strain. They also purchased the contract of catcher Eliezer Alfonzo from Triple-A Tacoma and designated infielder Jack Hannahan for assignment. The switch-hitting Bard, whose contract was purchased from Tacoma on May 16, was 6 for 22 with a homer and four RBIs in eight games.

Milton Bradley arrived in Seattle this winter distrusting the world. Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu could see that. He knew Bradley was joining his eighth team in 10 years. He knew many people saw the mercurial slugger as baseball's bad guy.
